Pro Evolution Soccer 3 vs FIFA 2004
This part of the site is devoted to comparing Pro
Evolution Soccer 3 to EA's FIFA 2004. Common opinion ranks FIFA higher due to
the fact that it has official licensing and a pretty picture a famous footballer
on the front of the box. The die-hard football fan and die-hard gamer prefer the
Pro Evolution Soccer series due to it's far superior gameplay, graphics and
general feel.
As both games are still in development, not many details
have been released, but a few screenshots have made the net. The two pictures
below don't show the exact same state of play, but the interesting aspect to
look at is the stadium in this case Chelsea's Stamford Bridge. In the
Pro Evo shot (top) you can see the stadium is all
but photo realistic whereas the FIFA stadium still
looks like a computer generated image. The other nice touch in the
Pro Evo shot, again something lacking in the
FIFA stadium is the crowd look very defined, even
down to the empty seats in the top corner (click
here to see
a bigger shot). From the information released so far, it's likely that these
empty seats are a result of the team not playing up to standard!!

Next up, again focusing on the stadium aspect. We now have
many new screenshots for use in comparison as both games are nearing completion.
The two shots we've got this time show the Stadio Delle Alpi home to Juventus.
The FIFA picture comes from the XBOX version of the
game hence the fancy lighting effect over the top of the stadium, expect the PS2
version to be a bit less fancy. Here are the shots for your deliberation:

Now I would be inclined to say that although the
FIFA shot is certainly more fancy, it doesn't look
'real' enough, it looks more like an architect's conceptual drawing, whereas the
PES3 shot shows life, you've got a crowd that looks
like it's there, as opposed to a wall of colour. It also contains other real
aspects such as the crowd passing the giant flag, little flags being waved,
confetti streaming down and puddles around the advertising boards. I must state
that these are merely my opinions and if anyone feels the need to disagree, feel
free to post a comment on the news page.
